Sophie is a fiddle player and ethnomusicologist specialized in the style and repertoire of the fiddle playing from her home region in Québec, Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean. She has learned around some of the last fiddlers of the region which still played the regional style and repertoire : Jean Desgagné, Philippe Gagnon, Paul- Henri Gagnon, Thomas Boudreault, Robert Gendron and Yolande Gendron. Among her writings on the subject, the bilingual collection En passant par le fjord : fiddle music from the Saguenay River to Lake Saint-Jean, published by Mel Bay Publications in 2026, stands out, as well as her master’s thesis in ethnomusicology submitted to the University of Montreal in 2019, entitled Les violoneux du Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean: style et répertoire des derniers de leur lignée.
